Abu Dhabi witnessed a commanding all-round performance from MI Emirates as they cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Gulf Giants in Match 26 of the ILT20.
After winning the toss, MI Emirates opted to bowl first and their decision paid rich dividends. Despite a fighting half-century from Moeen Ali, who top-scored with a well-crafted 51, Gulf Giants struggled to gain momentum. Kyle Mayers added 28 at the top, but consistent pressure from the MIE bowlers kept the scoring in check. Romario Shepherd and Fazalhaq Farooqi were the standout performers with the ball, picking up two wickets each to restrict Gulf Giants to a modest 141 for 6.
Chasing 142, MI Emirates lost two wickets in first two over, Pooran and Waseem stand a 140 runs partnership and seal the victory. MI Emirates made light work of the target with a dominant batting display. Nicholas Pooran led the charge with a blistering 69, showcasing his power and timing, while Muhammad Waseem played a superb supporting role with a fluent 59. The pair stitched together a match-winning partnership that took the game away from the Gulf Giants. Azmatullah Omarzai and Mark Adair managed to pick up a wicket apiece, but it was too little, too late.
MI Emirates reached 142 for 2 comfortably, sealing the match with authority and underlining their strength in both departments. The convincing win further boosts MIE’s confidence as the tournament heads into a crucial phase, while Gulf Giants will look to regroup and address their inconsistencies going forward.
