England wrapped up the fourth Ashes Test inside two days at Melbourne, sealing a famous victory and winning a Test match in Australia for the first time in 15 years.
Australia were bundled out for 152 in their first innings after England’s bowlers delivered a disciplined and aggressive performance. Michael Neser top-scored for Australia with 35 runs. England pacer Josh Tongue led the attack brilliantly, claiming five wickets, while Gus Atkinson provided solid support with two wickets.
England’s reply was no better, as their batting line-up collapsed to 110 all out, resulting in 20 wickets falling on the opening day of the Test. Harry Brook showed resistance with 41 runs. For Australia, Michael Neser picked up four wickets, Scott Boland claimed three, and Mitchell Starc took two.
Holding a slender 42-run lead, Australia failed to find rhythm in their second innings as England’s pace attack struck again. The hosts were bowled out for 132, setting England a modest target of 175 runs on Day Two. Travis Head fought hard with 46 runs, while Steven Smith remained unbeaten on 24, watching wickets tumble at the other end. Brydon Carse starred with four wickets, and Ben Stokes chipped in with three.
England chased down the target, finishing on 175/6 to secure the win. Jacob Bethell top-scored with 40, supported by Zak Crawley (37) and Ben Duckett (34). For Australia, Jhye Richardson, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland took two wickets each.
