25th September 2019, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Mahmood Khan welcomed the Global CEO of Careem on behalf of the people of KP. The day started with the MoU signing between Careem and Rescue 1122 KP.Peshawar will become the first city of the World to have Ambulances and Fire Brigade of Rescue 1122 available on Careem app. This will massively increase the response time of the emergency services in the city.Careem Pakistan will train staff of Rescue 1122 according to the new system.
Investment-friendly policies of KP Government are making KP the technology hub of Pakistan.KP Government reduced the Sales Tax on Services for Online Ride Hailing companies including Careem and Uber, that has triggered the companies to expand that’ll create more jobs for Youth at quick pace.
The MoU signing ceremony was followed by Motivational Talk and a panel discussion on the future of start-ups in KP at IMSciences. Mr. Taimur Saleem Jhagra; Minister of Finance, govt. of KP, Mr. Kamran Khan Bangash; Minister for Science, Technology and IT, govt. of KP, Mr. Mudassir Sheikha; CO-Founder and CEO of Careem, and Miss. Suniya Sadullah Khan; founder of Mouqa Online, constituted the panel discussion.
Mr. Mudassir Sheikha, CO-Founder and CEO of Careem, took over the stage and thanked Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for giving him this opportunity to extend support and visit Peshawar. He reflected on the initial days of Careem and how he established the start-up with a mind-set to solve local problems and how he turned the start-up into an international success.
During the panel discussion, members talked about the development that has been taking place in Pakistan and especially in KP. According to the members of the panel discussion, there has been a tremendous increase in entrepreneurship in Pakistan recently and many recent start-ups have been very successful.
Mr. Mudassir Sheikha expressed his great surprise and amazement at the brilliant young entrepreneurs who met and presented their startups to him at National Incubation center Peshawar. Mr. Mudassir committed to starting Careem regional office at Peshawar on priority basis. He expressed his pleasure in visiting Peshawar and experiencing the open mindedness of the KP Government and the young entrepreneurs.
